Bosch Brings Variable-Speed Technology to Every Model in Its New York YD Heat Pump Line

Bosch Home Comfort Group has launched its new York YD heat pump portfolio, and it breaks from a long-standing industry habit. Variable-speed inverter technology is usually saved for a manufacturer’s most expensive systems. In the YD line, it comes standard on every model.

Variable Speed at Every Price Point

According to Bosch, building fully modulating inverter technology into every tier opens up variable-speed comfort and energy savings to far more homeowners. The lineup spans a wide efficiency range, from 15.2 SEER2 and 8.5 HSPF2 at the entry level up to 20 SEER2 and 10 HSPF2 at the top.

The portfolio also includes cold-climate models that keep heating effectively at outdoor temperatures as low as –13°F. Bosch says the range gives contractors a simpler way to fit the right system to each home’s needs, budget and climate.

A Fully Matched Indoor and Outdoor System

Each YD heat pump is designed to pair with Bosch’s new York JD series air handlers. Because the indoor and outdoor units are engineered as one integrated system, there’s no guesswork about whether the equipment is properly matched, and the system can perform the way it was designed to.

On-board intelligence and diagnostics are built in as well, which helps streamline startup, routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

What Bosch Says About the Launch

Piero Caballero, senior product manager at Bosch Home Comfort Group, explained that most homeowners want the comfort and efficiency of variable-speed equipment, but until now those benefits have mostly been limited to premium systems. With the YD portfolio, he said, contractors no longer have to save inverter technology for high-end installations. Offering factory-matched systems at several efficiency levels makes it easier to specify, install and support equipment for a wide range of homeowner needs, budgets and climates.

Standard Features on Every York YD Heat Pump

Bosch says every heat pump in the YD series includes:

  • A fully modulating inverter compressor that adjusts its output in real time for precise, efficient comfort, while cutting down on the on-off cycling that causes mechanical wear.
  • Dual-fuel compatibility, so the heat pump can work alongside a gas furnace where the climate or homeowner preference calls for it.
  • Quiet operation as low as 56 dBA, using ultra-low-noise fan blades, sound-isolating mounts and silent blade technology.
  • Heavy-duty construction, including stainless steel heat exchangers, a durable powder-coat finish and high-performance blower and fan designs.
  • Wireless connectivity through the GoTemp Pro mobile app, which gives technicians instant access to product details plus installation and maintenance resources.

Smart Home Connectivity

When paired with the York Smart Home Control SHC350 thermostat, the YD series becomes a fully communicating system. Homeowners can then use the new GoTemp Home app, released this summer on the Apple App Store and Google Play, to fine-tune comfort and squeeze out more energy savings.

More Than Just York

Alongside the York YD series, Bosch has introduced high-efficiency heat pump lines under its Coleman, Champion, Luxaire and Fraser-Johnson brands. Every one of these systems is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

What This Means for Homeowners

Variable-speed systems run steadily at low speed most of the time instead of blasting on and off. That means more even temperatures, better humidity removal, quieter operation and lower energy bills. With manufacturers like Bosch now offering this technology at more price points, upgrading to variable-speed comfort is within reach for more homeowners than ever.
